Scientists predicted that storms would become more intense, and intense heat would occur in places that were not accustomed to the heat.
So far this year, the heat has been a big story. Take Japan for instance. This nation has seen its all time high temperature this year when the mercury rose to 106 degrees. In the Scandinavian nations, most of the time the summers are fairly cool. That’s not the case this year. The Scandinavian nations have seen the temperatures regularly rise to over 90 degrees throughout the summer.
In the United States, the effects of climate change on the weather are also quite noticeable. States such as Maine, Wyoming and Colorado have all set record temperatures this year.
On the east coast, many states are experiencing unusual rain events. Communities are facing downpours of rain that dump inches of rain in a short period of time. This has led to dangerous flooding events.
The wildfires are the most prominent event of the summer. California has experienced devastating wildfires that have caused both loss of life and extensive property damage. There are currently around 90 active wildfires occurring within the US.
Greece has experienced its worst wildfire in its history. This fire has left dozens dead and hundreds with no place to live.
Scientists are predicting that these types of weather events will become the norm as global climate change intensifies. They believe that communities should take action now to deal with the changing climate and the weather events that it will bring.
