The Amy Winehouse Foundation
One of them is the Amy Winehouse Foundation. The organization is focused on preventing the effects of drugs and alcohol misuse among young people. As someone who battled addiction at a very young age, Doramus knows how important it is to warn and educate teenagers and young adults about the dangers of addiction. Amy was only 27 years old when she died. After her death, Amy’s grieving friends and family decided to establish the foundation that makes a difference through education and caring for those who fight addiction every day, just like Amy once did. Unfortunately, Winehouse lost her battle but many young people still need the support. One of the main goals of the foundation is to support the personal development of young people through music and their awareness and prevention program.
Women’s Prison Association
Besides the Amy Winehouse Foundation, Victoria Doramus also supports Women’s Prison Association. WPA represents more than 4000 women in New York prisons and city jails. Usually, these women are imprisoned for property and drug-related crimes. The majority of them are poor and women of color who haven’t been given a chance to live normal lives. That’s why Victoria and Women’s Prison Association promote alternatives to imprisonment in order to help these women avoid being arrested in the first place. WPA helps women find safe housing, reunify with their kids, and fight their addiction by accessing addiction, health and mental health services. Knowledge is power and that’s why these women also have the opportunity to learn household budgeting and skills for daily life. Make the change before it’s too late – that is the message Victoria Doramus wants everyone to hear.
Room to Read
Another non-profit organization that Victoria Doramus is actively working with is Room to Read. The organization is changing the lives of millions of children in impoverished countries. Room to Read and their supporters are fighting for gender equality in education and literacy everywhere in the world. In collaboration with Room to Read, Victoria works on supporting girls to complete secondary school with enough relevant skills to succeed in life. Ever since the organization was founded in 2000, over 20,000 communities have benefited from its work, mostly in Bangladesh, Cambodia, Grenada, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Nepal, Tanzania and other countries that need the help the most.
Best Friends Animal Society
And last, but not the least, Victoria knows that animals also need our help. That’s why she supports Best Friends Animal Society, the non-profit organization that helps animals by trying to end the killing in the animal shelters across the USA. Best Friends Animal Society was founded in the 1980s, which was an unfortunate era for many cats and dogs in America. Namely, this was the time when animals were routinely killed as a method of handling unwanted pets. As a fierce supporter of this organization, Victoria believes that we can save all the pets by working hard and finding loving families for them. Those animals who don’t find a new family can spend their days in a safe environment in their new sanctuaries. Finally, we can make this world a better place through showing our kindness to animals.
