Molly Schau is a neonatal intensive nurse who has worked in the field for over 20 years. She is also working with a team of researchers at Northwestern University. They are doing clinical trials on infants.

Molly stated that many of the babies in the NICU are going through the worst thing that they will ever go through in their life. That is why she is asking parents to let their babies participate in the clinical trials. Molly believes that she brings a softer side to the research. She stated that because she is a nurse, she can see things that the researchers cannot see.

Nurses are able to see what the patients really go through. Clarissa is one of the NICU babies who has been through a lot. She was born with a defect in her spinal cord. This problem was discovered when Clarissa was still in the womb. Mason Stumpf is Clarissa’s father. He stated that it is hard to see his daughter with so many machines. He was scared to hold her because he was afraid that he would pull something.

Molly and her team are currently doing research and are hoping that they the babies will not have to be hooked up to as many machines. Zeke is one of the babies who is a part of the study. He is fighting an infection and was born with his organs on the outside of his body.

Channien Ojimba is Zeke’s mom. She stated that she knows that Zeke has a long road ahead of him. However, she is looking forward to the day that she can hold her son. Aiman is another baby who will be a part of the research study. They are holding off on including him in the study right now because they do not want to overwhelm him.

Molly is currently in the process of coordinating seven other research studies. She believes that the scientific research will make things much better for children in the future.
