InnovaCare Health, an innovative, value-based healthcare solution that benefits both members and physicians, is led by an award-winning team of doctors and administrators. The company’s president and CEO, Dr. Richard Shinto, has received several prestigious awards for his work in healthcare. Shinto and his team of experienced leaders focus on delivering high-quality, affordable care across the healthcare ecosystem.

Shinto Recognized in the Top 25 Minority Executives in Healthcare

In 2018, Shinto was awarded for his dedication to affordable, quality healthcare. He was recognized as one of the Top 25 Minority Executives in Healthcare by Modern Healthcare, a leading source of healthcare business news, data, research, and analysis. This prestigious award honors the best of the best minority executives in healthcare. These are the leaders who influence policy and care delivery. Modern Healthcare recognizes minorities in this area as a means to continue to bring attention to the value of diversity in the healthcare industry, as well as cultivate it.

Modern Healthcare’s award honored leaders in the industry who exemplify resilience and tenacity. Some of them have worked to ensure that communities of color have access to affordable and high-quality healthcare, while others protect victims of natural disasters and violent protests.

The editor of Modern Healthcare, Aurora Aguilar, stated that “these leaders have produced incredible results by elevating the quality of patient care at their organizations while supporting and advancing their peers to boost diversity in the C-suite.”

This is not the first time that Shinto has been recognized with this award. He also won it in 2012.

“It’s an honor again to be recognized alongside such a distinguished group of healthcare leaders,” he said. “At InnovaCare Health, we are devoted to improving health equity particularly for the country’s dual-eligible population, which includes some of the most vulnerable patients.”

In September 2017, InnovaCare Health’s subsidiary, MMM Healthcare, was instrumental in delivering healthcare services to the residents of Puerto Rico in the aftermath of the devastating Hurricane Maria. Under Shinto’s leadership, the organization also raised over $4 million in hurricane relief for the island.

“We believe in equality in our organization because we know diverse backgrounds and perspectives make our team stronger,” says Shinto. “To me, this award reflects the important work we are doing, as well as the strong culture we have built across our organization.”

Top 50 Most Influential Physician Executives and Leaders

In addition to his award as one of the top 25 minority executives in healthcare, Modern Healthcare also nominated Shinto as one of its Top 50 Most Influential Clinical Executives and Leaders for 2019. This award recognizes physicians who work in a variety of healthcare industry sectors. Nominees are those who lead their organizations to deliver high-quality healthcare despite the challenges that they face. Currently, in its 15th year, this award allows individuals and colleagues to cast their votes online.

Shinto was a deserving recipient of this nomination, as demonstrated on numerous occasions, including leading his team through the devastation of Hurricane Maria. Through the leadership and thoughtful planning of Shinto and his team, InnovaCare Health overcame many obstacles and challenges to provide much-needed help for victims of the storm. In the aftermath, the healthcare company was also mindful of its staff on the ground, providing them with clean showers, cash, and supplies so that they could tend to their own families and needs, as well as those of their patients.

In addition to his work at InnovaCare Health, Shinto serves on the Board of Directors for America’s Physician Groups and America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP).

Recently, InnovaCare Health added additional executives to its award-winning leadership team. Peter Zafris, who recently served as vice president of business development at InsightinHealth, joined InnovaCare as its vice president of sales and marketing. Zafris has a strong background in both business development and managed care strategic planning.

Zafris’ most notable accomplishments have been:

  • serving as a leader for top healthcare organizations such as Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, and Cigna.

Frank Izquierdo has also joined the InnovaCare Health team as the company’s vice president of corporate contracting and network development. Izquierdo has consulted with Fortune 500 healthcare companies and advised entrepreneurs launching management service organizations (MSO). He also has experience with health maintenance organizations (HMO).

Shinto was very pleased to welcome these two top-notch leaders to the InnovaCare Health team. “We are committed to further strengthening our leadership team, so we can continue to grow and solidify our position as a national leader in value-based healthcare,” he said. “These professionals bring a strong leadership style and a history of success that will be invaluable to our organization.”
