A research lab in Germany has recently been conducting experiments with birds. They are trying to determine if these animals are adapting well to climate change. The results of their study have been very disturbing to this point. Basically, the scientists have determined that the birds that have been a part of their study have not been able to adapt quickly enough to deal with the many problems of climate change. These same issues are most likely causing problems for other animal species around the world. This is obviously a huge problem for the planet as a whole. Unless changes are made soon to slow down climate change, there could be entire species of animals that will go extinct.
Turtles were also part of the study. However, the life spans of these animals are some of the longest of any animal on Earth. Therefore, the impact that climate change will have on these animals will be much harder to determine. The scientists were all in agreement that the issues that governments around the world face pertaining to climate change have never been more dire than they are right now. Decisions need to be made in the next several years. Otherwise, animal populations could begin to see their numbers start to dwindle as a result of climate change.
In the United States, climate change has been a hot topic of debate. President Donald Trump and the Republican party have said that climate change is not something to be concerned about. Meanwhile, the Democratic presidential candidates are making it one of their core campaign issues. It is clear that young people are focused on climate change. They have made it very clear that it is the most important issue that they are concerned about. It will be interesting to see how big of a role that climate change plays in the 2020 presidential election.
The scientists who were in charge of this study said that conservation efforts for various species of animals need to begin now. It will take too long for politicians to act to put new laws into place. Therefore, it is up to conversationalists to take charge of the situation and start to make plans about how to save these animals before it is too late. There are a number of options that are available to these people. However, waiting on politicians to pass climate change laws could put the populations of these animals at serious risk.
