Gump’s San Francisco is one of the oldest and most respected luxury jewelry retailers in America. In fact, the company has been around for 158 years. For the last century and a half, Gump’s has been providing its customers with spectacular jewelry products such as freshwater pearls, precious gemstones, and handmade precious metal bracelets and necklaces.
The company was founded by a man named Solomon Gump. He opened the business in San Francisco in 1861. Within a few years, Gump’s earned a stellar reputation in the Bay Area, and the company became very successful.
Unfortunately, after delighting generations of customers, Gump’s closed down in the winter of 2018. However, this is not the end for Gump’s. In the year 2007, married couple, John and Diane Chachas started investing in Gump’s. Their family interested in the brand has spread to their three children, Christopher, Anne, and Jack.
The Chachas family has taken a majority ownership of Gump’s with Anne, Christopher, and Jack having the largest shares of ownership Through their acquisition of this great company, the Chachas family has once again returned Gump’s to family ownership. Family has been an important part of the ethos of Gump’s for many years. Now, when the Chachas’ relaunch Gump’s the tradition of family ownership will remain alive and well with the brand.
The Chachas’ intend to relaunch Gump’s in the fall of 2019. The relaunch should include some exciting new jewelry products, gifts, and other surprises. The fans of Gump’s in the Bay area are very excited for the opening of the revamped store.
John and Diane have been long-time fans and customers of Gump’s and that is why they decided to become involved with the store and start investing in it. Speaking about the store, Anne Chachas said, “We believe this iconic brand has a unique ability to curate an exceptional product that can once again delight clients for years to come.”
This sentiment is shared by all of the other members of the Chachas family who are involved with the store as well. The Chachas’ possess a strong passion for and belief in the Gump’s brand. They believe that they will be able to restore it to its former glory with a little hard work, and some intelligent business decisions.
Over the years, Gump’s developed a reputation in San Francisco as being one of the go-to places to find exquisite jewelry, china, crystal, tabletops, homewares, and jade from Asia. The store is a true treasure of San Francisco culture. The fact that the Chachas family is keeping this store alive means that San Francisco gets to keep a part of its culture and its history alive
However, it is not only the locals who love Gump’s. Gump’s is also a favorite amongst the many tourists that San Francisco receives every year. Further, as a part of the relaunching of the business, the Chachas family plans to completely revamp Gump’s online presence as well. This will include improvements to the company’s website and an effort to increase the brand’s reach through social media as well.
Because Gump’s will be launched in the fall of 2019, it means that fans of the brand will not have to go through a holiday season without being able to buy great products from the store to use as gifts. For 158 years, Gump’s has been proudly helping customers to obtain excellent gifts for their loved ones, and the new Gump’s owners plan to carry on the tradition.
The fourth quarter is typically when most retail businesses get their highest sales volumes. So, the fall is the ideal time for the new Gump’s to launch. The Chachas family is looking forward to having the business up and running again. They are hoping that they will have a strong opening three months and that the sales that they generate will launch the brand very well.
Speaking about the upcoming holiday season, Anne Chachas said, “Gump’s and Christmas have shared 158 seasons with millions of customers and we are looking forward to welcoming clients as we re-introduce this very long American tradition.”
The company will most likely be offering the same types of products. So, if you need high-end pearls, diamonds, rubies, bracelets, necklaces, or earrings, then you can expect to find them at Gump’s. However, the new owners may decide to add some additional product categories as well. So, only time will tell exactly how similar the new Gump’s will be to the old one.
It is safe to say, however, that fans of the old store will most likely be delighted with the new one as many of the traditions will be kept by the Chachas family. Hopefully, the Chachas family will have as much success with the store as the Gump family did.
