Nintendo has made a career out of releasing game-changing mobile devices to the gaming world. Dating back to the original Gameboy, Nintendo has had a firm grasp on the mobile market for decades. Now, the famous Japanese gaming company is releasing one of their most anticipated new mobile products, the Nintendo Switch Lite. As a follow-up to the mobile/standard console hybrid that is the Switch, the Switch Lite offers a more affordable way for Nintendo fans to get their hand on the new device.

When discussing the Nintendo Switch and the Switch Lite, it can be helpful to know the primary differences between the two. As the Switch Lite has just recently been uploaded to Amazon for pre-order, at a cost of $199.99, more and more people are going to be looking to see what differentiates the two models, outside of their respective prices. For starters, the Switch Lite is going to be notably lighter than the conventional Switch, and this is due in large part to an alteration to the Joy-Con set-up. On the Switch Lite, gamers will find that they cannot remove their Joy-Con controllers from the body of the console. The Switch Lite is also a smaller device, measuring in at 8.2 x 3.6 x .6 inches, compared to the regular Switch at 9.4 x 4 x 0.6 inches.

The largest difference between the Switch and the Switch Lite will come by way of playability. If you’ve owned the regular Switch, you’ll know that you can dock the device into the Nintendo hub in order to play on your television. Unfortunately, the Switch Lite will only be playable as a handheld console. Instead of being able to port your Switch Lite over to your television screen, you’ll have to keep your gaming on the primary screen. While the lack of docking will turn many gamers away from the console, you’ll still be able to play the same games that you love on your regular Switch. The only games that the Switch Lite cannot access are non-handheld games.

As far as performance standards go, there are zero notable differences between the Switch and the Switch Lite. According to Nintendo’s development team, you’ll be able to enjoy the same accessories and games at the same standard as the original Switch. So, if you want to enjoy the upcoming ‘Pokemon Sword and Shield’, you’ll be able to play it to perfection on either the Switch or the Switch Lite.
