Since January 25, Individual Microentrepreneurs (MEI) have earned the right to open and close bank accounts through electronic devices – such as smartphones and computers, for example. Until then, this possibility was available only to the accounts of physical deposits. The authorization was approved, through Resolution 4630, at the monthly meeting of the National Monetary Council (CMN), stresses the entrepreneur, owner of TV TEM, José Hawilla.

According to information from the Central Bank (BC), the MEIs will follow the same procedures as individuals. The documents that are required by law to carry out the process can be sent by digital means – and it is up to the financial institution in question to complete the opening of the account, reports José Hawilla.

“The change represents a new, safe and gradual advance in the process of digitalization of financial services offered by financial institutions. In addition, it contributes to the integrated efforts of the various federal agencies to create conditions more conducive to the development of the activities of the MEIs, “said the BC.

J. Hawilla points out that another resolution approved by the CMN was Resolution No. 4,629, which provides for the establishment and operation of ombudsmen – it establishes that clients of financial institutions can evaluate the ombudsman’s offices.
“The measure establishes that, by July 1, 2018, commercial banks, multiple banks, investment banks, savings banks and credit, financing and investment companies will implement an instrument of evaluation by the client of the quality of the service provided by the ombudsmen, “reports the Central Bank. The institution also adds that customer’s notes and complaints will play the role of feeding the newly created “Ombudsman Quality Ranking”.

Every six months, the financial institutions will be in charge of publicizing the evaluations of ombudsman services on their websites, says entrepreneur J. Hawilla.

Individual Microentrepreneurs
According to the Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service (Sebrae), currently, to be considered an MEI, the entrepreneur must bill a maximum of R $ 60,000.00 per year or R $ 5,000.00 per month. He also can not participate as a partner or holder in another company and must also have at most one hired employee – this must receive the minimum wage or the floor of the category.

Entrepreneurs who register as MEIs will also be included in the National Simples – thus being exempt from federal taxes, such as Income Tax, Social Integration Program (PIS), Contribution to Social Security Financing ( COFINS), the Tax on Industrialized Products (IPI) and the Social Contribution on Net Income (CSLL), concludes the entrepreneur, owner of TV TEM, José Hawilla.
