When it comes to any engineering industry, collaboration isa key aspect of how products are developed. Very few commercial products aredesigned by a single person. The sheer complexities of today’s computers, cars, buildings in which we live, and even the toys with which our kids play meansthat thousands of man hours are spent on engineering and creating the products that surround us.

As a result, collaboration that streamlines the engineering process is essential to the efficient daily operation of our world. To help with that, Alex Hern has founded a company called Tsunami XR. Tsunami XR is focused on developing an advanced collaboration service that creates visually compelling and highly interactive applications.

Two key aspects differentiate Tsunami XR from other collaborative software. Alex Hern recently discussed these differentiations in an Art of Success podcast interview. They are persistence and co-presence.

Tsunami XR’s persistence is the idea that collaborative spaces come alive during collaboration and keep on living afterwards. Instead of having to continually sync up notes, engineering drawings, CAD models, or anything else that gets discussed during a meeting, Tsunami provides a place for all of those ideas to exist and interact in a true cross-reality continuum.

Tsunami XR’s co-presence is the idea that collaboration can take place on any device. Whether you are using a phone, tablet, or a VR headset, Tsunami’s 3D space allows people to collaborate while performing different tasks. This is a step ahead of the typical 2D collaboration of video calls and shared documents because it allows people not to have to watch the same screen or do the same task in order to collaborate

As Alex Hern points out, while other software developmentshave made it easier to communicate, Tsunami XR is working to transform howdigital work is done in the first place. The goal is to make people feel likethey work in the same room at the same time no matter where they may actuallybe. And big companies, including Honda, Ford, and Lockheed Martin, are alreadyusing Tsunami to get work done every day.

Alex Hern

Alex Hern is a serial entrepreneur who has been working for over 25 years to develop early-stage technology companies into commercial products. One of his first ventures was Inktomi, which powered the search technology for MSN, Yahoo, and AOL in early stages of search engine development. He has since co-founded a technology commercialization incubator, cybersecurity company, and large technology and engineering firm specializing in government and commercial projects.

Building companies is not something that is done alone. So, in his own way, Alex Hern has had to collaborate and work with numerous other people during his career to get projects done. One concept he emphasized during the Art of Success podcast is the idea of hiring the right people to work with. As a leader, Hern has learned how to properly delegate work to his employees and figure out how to most effectively achieve results. He stresses that finding the right people for your team is crucial for any business leader.
