The Northeastern USA Is Experiencing Serious Climate Change

There are many parts of the United States that have been impacted by climate change. However, the United States has not been as dramatically affected as other parts of the world. The one exception would be the Northeastern part of the country. It is very obvious to the people who live in that region that something has drastically changed. The winters are not nearly as cold as they used to be. It does not snow as much as it used to. There are fish that return to the coastal areas much sooner than they did in past decades.

The rise in temperature has caused strong winds that did not happen in the past. The average temperature in the New England states has gone up quite a bit over the past two decades. Rhode Island has had the biggest increase. The temperature in that state has risen by nearly for degrees. Needless to say, this is a major cause for concern. However, President Trump has stated on many occasions that he does not believe in climate change and global warming. His administration has continued to roll back environmental regulations that were put in place by President Obama.

What does the future hold for the Northeastern United States now that climate change is being felt throughout the region? Researchers and scientists are not really sure. The data they have compiled at this point is disturbing. However, some of it is inconclusive. For example, there have been a large number of humpback whales that have died over the past several years in waters off the coast of New England. Nobody paid much attention to these whale deaths because they were getting hit by ships and tangled up in fishing nets. Therefore, people thought they knew why the whales were dying. However, there are scientists who believe that the humpback whales are coming closer to shore because of the warmer temperatures. This is putting them at greater risk of coming into contact with ships and their fishing nets.

There does not seem to be much of a consensus among researchers about what climate change will mean for the region in the years ahead. Global warming and climate change need to be studied much more before we can truly understand its impact on the environment and the people who live there. It could be another decade until the true impact of climate change in the Northeastern United States is truly revealed.
